Obama is wrong on some issues (though there's always greater nuance than his critics imply, he's still wrong). He's too conservative on issues like civil liberties and the drug war. Liberals are right. The key to understanding why Obama is wrong? Liberalism. Liberalism is good. I read that somewhere. Let's review: Obama is either (a) a bit too conservative on these issues or (b) unwilling to take a political risk and stand up for liberal values. There. I've just explained the problem with Barack Obama without sound like a crazy person. See also: Occam's Razor. The End.
Oh wait - isn't my critique too short? Doesn't a critique of Barack Obama need to be incredibly complex? Doesn't it need to reference Ron Paul? Doesn't my critique need to use apocalyptic and dramatic language about the impending doom of society/the break down of the modern social order in order to appeal to the emotions of the reader? Don't I need to write in a dark tone? Shouldn't my critique imply that the problem with Obama is part of an incredibly complex and sweeping problem with liberalism itself? After all - this isn't just a case of a moderately timid/centrist Democrat. No, it's not simple. A 10 year old can't figure out this problem. This problem here is huge. It's expansive. It involves wealthy interests and the Fed. It involves Ron Paul.
You see, the simplest/common sense answer is never correct. No, the problem with Obama is not easily explained in 3 sentences about his ideology and tendency to take risks. No - it's complex. It involves the breakdown of the modern world, and liberalism as we know it. And it's best explained through the prism of Ron Paul, and if you explain it, you'd better use incredibly dramatic terms.
For starters, take a look at this pie chart:
Exactly.
But that's not all. Liberalism is dead. Ron Paul proves it. I'm not being overly dramatic. I'm just telling you how it is. This is about our basic freedoms, man. It affects everyone!
Or I could be wrong. It could be that the President has some liberal opponents who have (correct) liberal reasons to oppose him. These opponents have become tired of articulating those reasons over and over. And like anyone who has been ignored for a while, they're grasping at complex theories for why no one is listening to them. Their latest is a humdinger: liberalism is dead, and Ron Paul proves it! In 5,000,000 words of jumbled and tortured prose, they make their case. They're trying to crowbar Ron Paul into their critique of Obama.
But why?
Well, Ron Paul has some young liberal admirers. They admired a few of his issues that aligned with liberalism. It's easy to admire someone when you agree with them on a few issues, and they mostly serve as a useful cudgel against your political opponents on the Right. But the only reason why these liberals admired Ron Paul was because they lacked information. Most of them believed he was a social liberal. They didn't understand the extent of his economic radicalism. They saw it in the abstract, not in the specific. Why? Because he'd never been attacked from the Left. That's the lesson of Ron Paul. That's it. Now that he's been attacked form the Left, his support on the left is collapsing.
Instead of understanding this, Obama's liberal critics saw liberals supporting Ron Paul and figured that they were reading the tea leaves of the end of liberalism. It pleased them (subconsciously) to think that there were other liberals out there who might oppose Obama. Obama's liberal critics are tired of being ignored by the President and other liberals. Psychology 101 tells us that humans need to know the reason behind their failures. When we can't find one, the weakest among us use scapegoats. Others create an elaborate construct that justifies their failures and casts them on the right side of history. And Ron Paul ties it all together! Everyone who attacks Ron Paul (or attacks his defenders) is engaged in some sort of !
It's all very dramatic. It almost makes you want to yawn and read my first paragraph.
But let me ask you this before you take a nap: What the fuck does anything have to do with Ron Paul????
